i'm running windows XP sp2, and my computer is the third in a series of computers connected to a D-Link DI-604 router.
sometime last week i stupidly, STUPIDLY ran a WMV file that asked for a codec to be installed, even more stupidly installed the codec, and here we are. since then i've been getting "popup.adv.net" popups from every site i go to, and my dns settings keep getting reset to 85.225.110.12 and i cannot download microsoft updates [can access all pages, but i get a "the page requested cannot be found" when i try and download]. i've since installed NoScript for Firefox 3.04 to keep the popup scripts from running. i also found a hidden "resycled" folder and its accompanying autorun.inf in each of my partitions and my flash disk, deleted them all. there was also a hidden "yahoo!" folder in my Documents and Settings Application Data folder before the Malwarebytes scan, but it's gone now. i don't know about the second computer linked to the router, but the main one does not seem to have the popups [even without the NoScript]. however, it cannot download microsoft updates either. ran Malwarebytes on it and it also found the DNSChanger trojan. i've run sdfix and smitfraudfix, both of which removed a DNSChanger trojan. Malwarebytes also removed it last night, and this morning, and this lunchtime, everytime i'd run it. but it keeps coming back. the logs posted are for my computer. ===================== MALWAREBYTES LOG AT TIME OF POSTING Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.30 Database version: 1400 Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 11/16/2008 3:06:44 PM mbam-log-2008-11-16 (15-06-44).txt Scan type: Quick Scan Objects scanned: 52781 Time elapsed: 5 minute(s), 37 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 6 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\DhcpNameServer (Trojan.DNSChanger) -> Data: 85.255.112.9 85.255.112.209 -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
