I am using windows 98 SE and IE 6. It will not open any pop-up or second windows. Nor will it download any window updates and install them. All that I get is blank window showing the first windows image on it. I have tried to repair the IE still won't work. and installing it to previous version(IE 5) works the pop-ups but some of my programs require IE 5.5 or higher. I also found my IE.inf file and tried reinstall and not luck either. Can someone help me???????

- What do you mean by "first windows image"?

Until someone more knowledgeable can help you why not use another browser and forget about IE6? ohmy.gif

I started having the same problems that you describe on Tuesday, March 22 - the day before you posted your problem. I have tried many things including uninstalling and reinstalling my virus scanner and firewall, and checking around for fixes. This is the first similar occurance that I have found and the date coincidence seems to indicate a wider problem that just our computers. When i try to click on certain links I get a new window that is just an empty frame with the title Microsoft Internet Explorer, and it just spins its wheels. This also happened when I tried to click on the links in the bleeping computer email for new registration. If I click on the tutorial link, I get this empty window.
Hopefully someone can help us.

Congratulations!

And thanks for posting back on how you accomplished your fix.
It may help others here too.
